It was a cloudy, cool day — not necessarily a good one for photographing London’s financial district on our class field trip. Well, the weather in London is capricious — as we are aware — so we just donned our layers and made the best out of it.
The assignment was about capturing two distinct feelings: (1) the contrast of the old and the new, and (2) the architecture of financial and colonial power. I asked them to come up with three separate photos — one that communicated finical might, one for military power, and one that dealt with religion. I suggested they work in groups and discuss strategies before they began. As usual, I let them be and went off with my own camera. Here are a couple of my offerings; I tried to keep the assignment in mind, too.
See more on my photos in the gallery – including several of the iconic Lloyd’s of London Building.
