Last night, Autumn and I went to the Riverside Cemetery’s Spirits in October event. I thought it sounded a bit cheesy, but I ended up having a good time and learning a couple of things about Macon and Riverside Cemetery. Perhaps the fact that most surprised me was that the mentor of Frederick Law Olmsted – Calvert Vaux — designed the cemetery to take advantage of the natural landscape’s features rather than transforming them. When you walk through the cemetery, its kinship to New York’s Central Park or the Biltmore Estate’s grounds are apparent.
At several points along the tour, actors played the “spirits” and performed vignettes about those interred in the cemetery, and the cemetery’s history — especially as it related to the Civil War. All the performances were entertaining and well acted.
Our tour started at 6:45 pm, so I had little time for photos, but I did manage to get some with the help of my awesome Canon 85mm f/1.2. All shots are taken without flash.
Oh, yeah, and Autumn was the cutest witch I saw last night. There are some alternate photos in my Glossom collection.
