For the fall colors, that is. Even though the day wasn’t ideal for a portrait shoot (the sun was totally absent), we knew the rain was coming, so we decided to try to capture some of the fall colors for they disappeared for another year. I wasn’t optimistic, but we managed to get a few that I really like.

We started at this spot along my running route, but ended back in front of our house. Yes, our street — Hines Terrace — might be one of the prettiest in Macon this time of year. I know I’m a bit biased, but it really is hard to beat. Check out last year’s shots, and the previous year’s.

All shots that used a flash — which was most — the flash was off-camera; see the equipment list below. Most times, I positioned the flash 90° from the model, to get a dramatic lighting effect, like the sun setting. Sometimes this produces shadows that are a bit harsh, but had I the time (and energy), I could have compensated with a second flash. Still, I’m frequently amazed at what you can accomplish with just one strobe when you take it off-camera.

As I mentioned in my last post, we are in the midst of the annual Cherry Blossom Festival in Macon, GA. One of the last events of the festival is the Market on Mulberry. Autumn, Cheryl, and I checked it out and had a little lunch.

I was more interested in getting some photos, while Autumn and her mom shopped. The market is always the same, but I strapped on my 70-200mm lens and knew I could get some photos of the crowd and, of course, the cherry blossoms.

If you are familiar with this site, you will notice a pretty significant change in the look. I have decided to make it more of a blog.

It uses the SnapBlog theme from WordPress Bundle, some new guys in the world of WordPress themes. What made me give them a try is that they’re associated with Woo Themes, so I know their products would be good. While I have had a couple of small glitches, I must say I’m pretty pleased with this 1.0 product. Keep up the good work, guys.

Oh, and please excuse the mess around here until I get everything updated. I consider it my holiday project. And (frak!) my permalinks got messed up. Sorry about that.

Today, Autumn and I shot some family portraits in Washington Park. While we were waiting, I snapped a few fall leaves. This shot was great right out of the camera, but it had been a while since I used Photoshop for some textured effects, so I added some here.

These photos were taken on our fall 2010 trip to the Great Smoky Mountains. Some were done on our hike on the Chimney Tops Trail in the national park. The fall colors were just beginning to come to the foliage, especially at the higher elevations. I’m looking forward to capturing more fall images this year.
