The Flea
Thoughts from
Aaron Bergacker
The vast imagination of the narator of this poem stirs my thoughts wildly while triing to pick up on all of the sexual analigies. The comparison of the virtue of being chaste before marraige to the value of the flea's death places questions in my head. the church and society will quickly tell the world of sin and moral decay, while humanity has a desire for sex throughout history. This poem challenges you to question where you, the reader, stand on this issue in these lines:
'Tis true; then learn how false fears be:
Just so much honor, when thou yeild'st to me,
Will waste, as this flea's death took life from thee.
