JEALOUSY

The Winter's Tale is a story of jealousy. It shows a good portrayl of the jealous husband and the "cheating wife." Basically this story could be perceived in two ways, one could believe that Leontes is justified in his reasoning that his wife is having an affair. Hermione does many things to suggest she is having an affair. Hermione is flirtatious towards Polixenes and she also is forlorn when Polixenes announces his departure. Leontes sees his wife's actions and is insanely jealous.

Leontes could also be portrayed as the crazy husband, who has absolutely no reason to be jealous. Leontes is the only person who imagines his wife is having an affair. The other characters do not see what Leontes sees. When Leontes accuses his wife of having an affair, everyone is shocked.

The Winter's Tale is a versatile story because the readers can basically decide for themselves is they believe Leontes is justified in his reasoning that his wife is having an affair or they can decide Leontes is simply crazy.
