2.2.1 Initial Services

You will recall that we turned off services that we did not need on the server, and turned on others; we will do the same for the workstations. Since we boot the workstations under runlevel 5, we will concentrate on this runlevel during configuration. You will notice that the initial services are slightly different than the server’s were. This is as it should be, since we installed the workstation configuration, not the server. The following services should be off:

apmd, arpwatch, gpm, isdn, pcmcia, kdcrotate, kudzu, linuxconf, identd, pppoe, rwhod, sendmail, and rhnsd.

And these processes should be on:

anacron, syslog, crond, netfs, network, random, rawdevices, atd, xfs, keytable, ipchains, lpd, nfs, nfslock, sshd, portmap, and ypbind.

Refer to section 2.1.2 Initial Services for additional instructions, if you need to.
