Evaluation

You will be required to post your informal writing assignments, and we will assign it a grade of “credit,” “half credit,” or “no credit.” The grade will be based upon thoroughness and depth of insight. As mentioned Informal Writing, we will not consider grammar or writing style. At the end of the semester, this portion of your grade will be determined by the percentage of daily assignments for which you have received credit. For instance, if you are assigned twenty informal writing assignments and you received full credit for sixteen of them, then you would receive a grade of 80 (80%, or 16 out of 20 possible credits) for that portion of your final grade.

Each of the formal essays will be assigned a letter grade, ranging from A to F. In addition to looking for thoroughness and insight, we will be looking for a clearly stated main idea and ample evidence to support this main idea. we will also expect these formal papers to be free of grammatical and spelling errors.

Your participation in group activities both in-class and at a distance will be weighed heavily in evaluation. Since writing is an on-going process, participation, effort, and attitude will count as much as written work.

Your final grade will be based on the following percentages:

Daily writing assignments 25%
Paper #1 25%
Paper #2 25%
Class participation 25%

But we hope most of our energy will be devoted not to worrying about grades but to experiencing the sounds and images of Jazz.
