ENC 4260: HTML / MOO Theory and PracticeIntroduction |
ENC 4260, Advanced Technical Writing: HTML / MOO Authoring and Theory, addresses the uses of writing about and for information technologies. Since computers have become an integral aspect in the discipline of technical writing, knowing how to utilize, explain, and criticize them and their tools is crucial for any current technical writer. This class will address hypertextual applications, including visual rhetoric, technical exposition and narration, and collaborative composition and implementation of Hypertext Mark-up Language and Cascading Style Sheets, as well as an applied theoretical project in a MOO environment, a text-based virtual reality. ENC 4260 will be taught in CPR-202, the English Departments computer classroom and also incorporate autonomous, distance learning components; a basic familiarity with and access to computers (Internet and word processing applications on any operating system) is a prerequisite. Students should also be familiar and competent with skills taught in ENC 2210, Basic Technical Writing. Students will utilize basic technical writing skills on a daily basis: memos, proposals, progress reports, and letters; and technical description, process analysis, instruction, and definition. Proper emphasis should always be given to purpose, audience, and style. |
