Writing Project: Beloved

During the next three weeks, we will read Toni Morrison’s Beloved. In an attempt to gain as much insight into the novel as possible, we must collaborate as a class on developing dialogue and writing both in and out of class. Here is a list of your responsibilities for the remaining weeks.
  1. Choose two partners (to make groups of three), classmates whose schedule coincides with yours and who you will agree to work with. With your partners, choose a time when you and they will meet in a collaborative writing environment in order to discuss the novel. (Note: you must agree to have the assigned reading complete before you agree to meet.) Let me know who you have chosen, when you plan to meet (three half-hour sessions), and in what environment. (While you may of course communicate with your partners verbally, try to do most of your work in an electronic environment.) 4/1

  2. Decide on a research topic for your final paper and write a paragraph prospectus. The topic may address any aspect of Beloved. (Also decide on a format for your final project: a paper, a web site, etc.) 4/8

  3. Complete Interview 1. 4/13

  4. Coordinate a time and meet with another group in an online environment. Discuss what you and your partner have addressed already about the novel (bring in class discussion, too) and share your research ideas. Offer suggestions for further work and development. Continue to work with your partner on your final project. 4/15

  5. Prepare a summary of your research and be prepared to discuss it in class with your partner. Also, be prepared to discuss the collaborative writing process. 4/20

  6. Complete Interview 2. 4/22
Throughout the process, keep accurate records of your work. At the end of each week, take some time to complete Software Use Questionaire (you should have three of these by the end of the project). Turn in these records, including MOO transcripts, with your completed project. NOTE: This is a collaborative writing project; in order to complete it successfully, you must work with others.

I will be available throughout this project to offer guidance and assistance. Please contact me whenever necessary; you have my email address and phone number. Finally, if I feel that the effort given by each class member on this project is strong and enthusiastic, then there will be no final exam.

Completed Project Due: Thursday, 22 April
