In our class so far this year we have indirectly talked about the importance of education. Although we as a class have not addressed the topic on a detailed level it has still come up in various shapes and forms. After all that is basically what college is all about. Receiving a college degree is almost essential to being able to make a quality living these days. Without an education people can very rarely make good money unless they are doing it illegally. This doesn't include those people who don't receive a high school diploma. Those people are almost destined to lead poverty stricken lives. Even if you do receive a college degree you won't necessarily make good money. A graduate school degree doesn't even guarantee good pay. Education is almost always required for people to have decent jobs though.
Being well-paid and having a good job is not what education is really all about. They are definitely benefits, but they are not as important as other aspects. The real importance of education is all about improving yourself as a human being and challenging your mind to grow beyond what you think it is capable of. Without education people will be ignorant and ignorance is disgusting. Without education people would not be able to know about the world around them or about what happened in the world they live in before they lived in it. Thus, these people would have no way of appreciating many things in their lives that educated people would be able to appreciate. The uneducated are very limited in terms of being able to appreciate new things and are more likely to make unwise decisions concerning their future compared to educated people.
Education is essential to being able to enjoy financial and intellectual richness. The financial aspect of the importance of education is definitely secondary in terms of overall significance to the intellectual aspect. Education gives people the opportunity to experience exciting, meaningful lives.
