What's Love Got To Do With It

Zarinah Aquil, Angie Farah, Katie Rolfes

What does love have to do with it? Love can be considered many emotions such as lust, jealousy, and an unconditional love. The ways of expressing love vary from the type that one is under. If one is under the sexual lusting form of love than Marvell's "To His Coy Mistress" or Donne's "The Flea" would be excellent examples on how to sexually woo a person. If one is in the unconditional love than Shakespeare's "Sonnet 116" would be an excellent depection of true love.

Each poem has love defined in different terms. Andrew Marvell's "To His Coy Mistress" presents the manipulation of time to benefit him in the seduction process. John Donne's "The Flea" uses the flea as a metaphor to assimulate the sexual action between two people. Shakespeare's "Sonnet 116" is a contradiction of words. One must think about what the speaker is saying. The contradiction tells about what love is not thus, revealing the true meaning of love. Under the "Sonnet 116" "Sonnet's 33, 34, and 35" are discussed. The sonnet's are a continued metaphorical story about a persons emotions and what they go through when getting hurt or betrayed and what is done about it.
