T.H.E. Journal is a widely read journal in the field of education for teachers, media specialist, principals and administrators of all grade levels. The September 1997 issue published, "E-Comp: A Few Words About Teaching Writing With Computers."
Informative Abstract
University of Michigan instructors developed a course using e-mail and web publishing in the curriculum to teach writing skills. After two years, these teachers discovered incorporating computers created more critical thinking. In this course, students experienced better confidence in group work, improved the writer's sense of audience, developed more attention to sentence-level writing, created student-oriented environment, became more conscience of the use of language through different medias, and displayed more constructive commenting on peer papers. Integrating computers in the classroom may require more cost, preparation, and training, but instructors found that computers extended the strategies and structures currently used in any grade level while addressing contemporary ideas.
