Stuff That’s Cool: My Links Page

~my.other.www.sites

USF Department of English — I’ve been the department’s webmaster since the summer of 1997 (maybe earlier). Since then, the site has gone through several revisions and updates, especially since the powers-that-be have discovered the necessity for an Internet presence.

Posthuman Figuration — This is a hypertext I made for a postmodern feminism course. It’s my only attempt to write a real hypertextual document, so far, and it contains a pastiche of many of my interests: feminism, blasphemy, (post)humanism, and MOOs.

LitMUSE — Speaking of MOOs, I have been running LM since April of 1999. is both an educational and social MOO and presently has more than 100 players. LM is one of my favorite places. You can visit by either the web-based interface, or telnet to litmuse.cas.usf.edu using port 8888.

MacTampa — Finally, a Mac-only consulting firm. These guys rock. I love their Russian revolution-inspired visual rhetoric. Slick.

Healthy Blasphemy: Dissenting Discourses in Rushdie and Bulgakov — My master’s thesis. It seems really green to me now, but many have found it useful, so there you go.

202 — Cooper Hall is the crappiest building at USF, except maybe for the fine arts building. However, 202 is my computer classroom, in as much as I set up the network, installed Red Hat Linux on all the machines, and keep the computers humming along. I hope to have a “HOWTO Get Windoze Out of the University” document here soon. ;-)

Science Fiction Stuff

The Bruce Sterling Online Index — A collection of links to “every Bruce Sterling work on the Web.” Pretty impressive and useful for any Sterling afficionado.

Science Fiction: Some Definitions — A collection of two dozen quotations about what science, or speculative, fiction is and how it’s relevant to literary study.

Macintosh

dealmac.com — Since I'm always looking for good deals, especially on Macintosh equipment, I check this site every day. Not only does it have links for systems, but also for peripherals, storage, memory, etc. A great site.

Accelerate Your Mac — Run by Michael Breeden, this site contains tutorials, reviews, howtos, reader comments, and news. I don’t know how Mike keeps up with it all, but I’m glad he does.

MacNN — These guys do a pretty good job with Mac news, but their site is more useful for the user forums and OSX stuff.

Other World Computing — The best place on-line to get upgrades and memory for your Mac. They are fast and have the best prices around.

Linux

LinuxPPC — This server has been running some form of LinucPPC since the spring of 1999. Their recent release installs in under 30 minutes and is easy to configure. I highly recommend this release of Linux since it compiles using a PowerPC.

Music

Glen Phillips — The former lead singer and primary talent from Toad the Wet Sprocket has introduced his own web site. Download MP3s, see tour dates, and read and discover who made all of Toad’s artistic choices. Buy his new CD.

Food

Well, since I’ve been a practicing proponent of the MacDougall Plan for a while, I thought that I would share some of my recipes and many more donated by friends. Have a favorite vegan recipe? Send it to me.
