2.2.4 NIS Client

Like we did for the NIS server, we will begin by editing the /etc/yp.conf file. You need to tell the workstation what server it needs to look for upon boot. To do this, add the following line to the end of /etc/yp.conf:

ypserver english.your.domain

Of course, you must replace the name of my server with the fully-qualified domain name of your server. Next, you will edit the /etc/sysconf/network file by adding this line:

NISDOMAIN=english

Once you have edited these files, it’s time to reboot the machine:

reboot

In a minute or two, you should, once again, see the graphical login screen. This time, try to login as one of the student accounts you created using the graphical login. It should boot you easily into Gnome or KDE, depending on which GUI you chose during installation.
